Freedom in Business, Your Roadmap to Success
The Digital Nomad lifestyle is all the hype these days. And it has many pros.
It allows you the ability to travel and live anywhere in the world while running your business. It provides a lot of flexibility to experience new things. And those that are living this lifestyle make it look pretty spectacular. But it’s not for everyone.
Instead, each of us needs to define what freedom means to us as individuals. What aspects of our life do we want more time for?
How can you be successful in business? While supporting your life values and priorities?
Build your business and set goals for the freedom you are building for your life. Here are some things to consider...
Warning: While this seems simple, each of these questions will take some time to reflect on and define. Be sure to take the time to dig into each question. It’s worth it, I promise.
1. What do you value most?
One thing I like to challenge my clients to do early on is to define their values. Understanding your personal values, allows you to build out the right culture for your business.
When you are first getting started we want to get it right the first time around. Instead of wasting time on rebuilding, let’s build clarity early on.
Knowing your values allows you to say yes to the right things and no to the wrong things early on.
For example, my values are freedom, intimacy, harmony and creativity. As I approach various situations in my life and business, I am better equipped to show up standing on firm ground in my values.
I know that when I am having a conversation with my partner and family, I need to be grounded in intimacy first. When I show up in my business and marketing, I am showing up from a stance of freedom and creativity. And in my coaching sessions, I am showing up with all four values but especially intimacy so that I can create a safe space for my clients.
Build out your values today. Start exploring what each value means to you. Get curious about how you are showing up in different parts of your life and business. Is it aligned? Do you need to show up from a different value stance instead?
The more you know and understand your values, the easier it will be to market your business. The easier it will be to grow your client base. You will also be better equipped to build amazing relationships with solid communication.
And because I value freedom so much, it means I value travel a LOT. I value experiencing different cultures because it helps me become more creative. It gives me perspectives I wouldn’t previously have had.
Knowing what you value, helps you understand what you are trying to build. If freedom isn’t part of your DNA, then becoming a digital nomad might not be the right fit for you.
What are your values?
What are your life priorities and business goals?
Let’s take this a step further. We know what your values are. What are your top 5 priorities in life?
Be very specific as you outline these. Are they aligned to your values?
For example, one of my priorities is to grow spiritually each year. For me, this means spending time in meditation, visualization and prayer every morning. It means reading at least 2 new spiritual growth books every year. It means experiencing different religions when I travel around the world. This gives me new perspectives.
Can you see how this life priority is specific? Being specific allows us to measure and track our progress and success.
Can you also see how this priority is in line with my values? It’s aligned to intimacy as my spirituality is a huge part of how I connect to others. It’s connected to my freedom. As I travel, I experience different religions and spiritual practices.
What are your top five life priorities? Are you living in a way that’s aligned to achieving them? Do they line up with your values?
Spend some time on this. When we are focused and clear, everything we do flows. Life is much easier. We become less busy because we focus.
After you map out your life priorities, define your 3 business goals for this quarter. Again, be specific. When will you accomplish that goal, what number will you hit, and how will you accomplish it?
Use your priorities and goals as your compass.
Print it. Share it with your family. Use it as a screensaver. Use it to decide what to say yes and no to.
This is a game changer. Be sure you dig in and set the right intentions and priorities on your life and business compass.
What does this have to do with building freedom in your business?
As you map out your priorities and goals, if there’s nothing in there about travel, then freedom is different for you.
Define freedom based on your values and priorities. Don’t let someone else define it for you. Don’t try to live a digital nomad lifestyle if it won’t make you happy.
How did this go for you?
3. Define what freedom in business means to you?
Get clear on your values, priorities and goals. Then begin exploring what freedom means to you.
What does freedom in your life look like?
Freedom in your life should be opening up more space and time for your top life priorities. It should give you the flexibility to do what brings you the most joy and happiness in life.
What does freedom in your business look like?
Freedom in your business should allow you to have time for your life priorities. While also hitting your business goals each quarter. It means that you still love what you are doing in your business. You are able to support your clients while still having space for your priorities.
For me freedom in my life means I have time to take care of myself and my health. When I’m out of alignment with life, my body always tells me. I start getting a lot of migraines. I have more pain. I feel stressed and tense all the time. When I take on too much in my business, my body lets me know. And then I scale it back and revisit my goals and timeline.
Without my health, I can’t do anything I want. I can’t have healthy, intimate relationships. I can’t be creative.
Freedom in my business means I am able to create an amazing experience. Where my clients are having raving success. And at the same time, I am able to travel. I am able to have amazing experiences with my family and partner. I have time to try new things and boost my creativity. I have time to do my morning routine and find balance for my day.
What does freedom look like in your life and business? What changes do you need to make so you can live by YOUR definition of freedom?
I want to hear from you!
4. As you explore this question, consider what you want others to remember you for.
What will be written on your gravestone? What will your children remember you for?
What is the one thing you want the world to remember you for achieving? That one thing you want to be spectacular at. That one thing that is your superhero power.
What is the mission you are building?
My mission is to help as many individuals start and scale their businesses to reach millions of individuals who need their holistic approach to life. I want to be remembered for helping holistic business owners serve even more individuals on their journey to whole healing.
I know that real healing happens when we take full responsibility for our health. That includes finding a team of holistic healers that work to help you. With your health challenges. A holistic team that helps you bust through any blockers in your way. A team that helps you break through any mental walls or ceilings you have placed on yourself.
I believe that our world will thrive when we each take ownership of our lives. When we each achieve our personal potential, then we can find better solutions. Better collaborations. New inventions. New healing lifestyles. And so much more. I am here to help inspire the holistic healers of the world. To empower them to do what they are so great at healing.
What do you want to be remembered for? What is the legacy you are building?
I want to hear about your legacy.
Building Freedom In YOUR Business On YOUR Terms
Now that you have the answers to these key questions, you can build the map to freedom in your business. On YOUR terms.
Here are some of the biggest mistakes business owners make. Don’t make these mistakes...
They build the business of someone else's dreams. Instead, stop to consider what you want from life.
They don’t take the time to build out their values. They end up with a company culture that’s out of alignment with who they are. They build a business that’s not what they dreamed up.
Instead, stop and define your values. Build your business and computer culture on this foundation.
They don’t take the time to map out their life priorities. Because they didn’t do this, they have a business that’s stealing their joy. That’s stealing their time from the things and people that they care about most.
Take the time and build your compass. Map out your life priorities and business goals. Build a plan to make it happen.
They don’t define freedom on their own terms. Instead, they look at another business owner they look up to and copy them. Copying never works. We are all so unique.
Build the business and life you want. Design it on your own terms. Build it so you can remain passionate and inspired while you build it.
They don’t determine the legacy they want to leave behind. This means they are taking action with no real vision. Action with no compass is a waste of time. It means you are building something that won’t bring you the most joy.
If you take this route, you will burn out. You won’t reach your full potential.
Instead, define your legacy. Visualize it. Own it. Take action that will help you make it a reality.
Take the time to answer these questions. Use the clarity you uncover from answering them. Take action based on them. Share them with others for accountability.
And see what happens. What opportunities open up. What new ideas you have. How much more joy you experience when you are living a life of freedom on your own terms.
I want to hear from you. How’s it going? What are you building?
