Got Inspiration?
What exactly is inspiration and why is it so important? After interviewing over 20 transformational and visionary leaders in their fields, I believe inspiration is that inner drive or light in each of us that calls to us to do something bigger than ourselves.
Yifat Cohen, international speaker, influencer, and show host, described inspiration as “when you have so much excitement and energy to do something even if no one ever paid you to do it you feel you have to do this today”. It’s important that each of us taps into what drives us. What fuels you and energizes you every single day?
Inspiration is deeply unique to each of us. This is why self-reflection is pivotal to success. It’s up to each of us to define success for ourselves. Otherwise, we allow others to dictate success for us which ultimately leads to unhappiness, bitterness and burnout.
The Inspiration Contagion Movement
One morning I sat on my meditation pillow and I was trying to uncover the topic for my book. I wanted to share my journey and some of my struggles but mostly I wanted to inspire. So as I visualized this book and who it would impact, inspiration kept rising up. It filled me up with energy, creativity and ideas.
And given that we are in the middle of a pandemic which is fueling all of our fears, I thought it would be great if we had something else that caught fire and spread. What if instead of spreading fear, uncertainty and anxiety, we could spread inspiration?
I also knew that I wanted to interview other visionaries and leaders to share their stories, challenges and lessons. Because I wanted high accountability but also to build a movement around this, I decided what better way to do this than launch a podcast. This way I can share the stories along the way to writing the book.
The podcast is more than a podcast. It’s about bringing people together. Helping people uncover what drives them. Allowing people space to reconsider how they define success. And inspire them to create their own journey forward.
Exercise
My challenge to each of you today is to stop and really think about what you aspire to do and be in this world. If money were no object, what would you create in the world today? Try not to let the “how” get in the way. Simply imagine if you could do anything, what would that be?
If this is difficult for you to explore, consider starting with a short meditation, silent or guided. Get your mind to quiet. Now visualize what inspires you most.
It may take some time to uncover your calling so stick with it. Don’t rush the process.
