Got Leads?
Time and time again I hear... from solopreneurs to business owners... is getting leads. They need more clients and are struggling to find them.
Here’s the thing... there is a method to getting consistent leads. And it’s not all that complicated.
The problem is that most people simply won’t take action. They are afraid to do the work. Afraid of rejection. Afraid to experiment and try new things.
Anything worth doing in this world will have its setbacks and obstacles. But it makes it all the much more exciting when you do arrive at your goal.
Ready for some ninja tips on getting leads that actually work? Great! Read on...
BUT it’s time for YOU to put on action taker pants. Because without action, nothing changes. And if nothing changes, what’s the point?
Tip 1: Get on the Phone
You heard me. These days the phones we have aren’t heavy and they aren’t even attached to a cord or a wall. And yet, my clients feel so resistant to using the phone.
But it works...
If you’re a member of your local chamber, pull up the directory list and start calling folks who are potential ideal clients. Call 2-5 business owners a day.
Say, “Hello Jane, my name is Holly. I’m also a member of the chamber of commerce and I’m working to build out my network in the area. Since we work in the same industry, I thought it would be great if we set up time for a virtual or in person java. What do you think?”
Most of the time, they will say, “That sounds amazing. Tell me more about what you do? How long have you been with the chamber? Yes, I’d love to grab coffee.”
But you won’t know what they will say until you pick up the phone and make the call.
And following up is key. Follow up with a voice text memo or an email to schedule that coffee chat.
Not a member of the chamber? No worries. Find another business association, alumni group, networking group, or resource and start there.
I challenge you to start calling 2-5 potential ideal clients a day for the next 30 days. I guarantee you will start to see results. But you have to schedule the time and make it happen.
Tip 2: Network, network, network!
Find networking groups like BNI, your chamber of commerce, B2B groups, B2C groups, and anywhere you can find your ideal clients or referral partners. You can’t build a business without people.
Get out there and meet people. Make sure you’re known in the community. Volunteer for a cause you care about. Be a judge on a committee at a college. Be the go to person in your field of business. This is what makes word of mouth spread like wildfire.
Attend conferences where your ideal clients hang out. I recently attended a women’s leadership conference and met at least 20 amazing people. Four of them had stages I could speak on. Two of them wanted to hire me for a workshop at their company. And a few of them are potential ideal clients.
Do the math... That conference cost me $150. Yet the value is in the tens of thousands if not more for the life of those connections.
Find networking groups that help you build your business tribe. I have 2-4 core networking groups where I have my people. These are my people for when I don’t have the answer to something. The people I go to when I am facing a challenge. I lean on them for business wisdom and ideas.
You can’t succeed in business alone. Build your tribe.
I challenge you to try 4 new networking groups over this next month. Schedule and book tickets to one upcoming conference. See what happens. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed with the results.
Tip 3: Virtual Coffees
I personally use LinkedIn to build out my business tribe, my referral partners, my speaking opportunities, and to meet people I can help. I reach out to potential ideal clients and referral partners on a daily basis.
Please note, I am not doing the slimy sales on first contact approach that most use on LinkedIn. I am genuinely interested in getting to know people.
To connect them to people in my network who can add value. To introduce them to people who could be their ideal clients. To add them to my CRM for future referrals. To see how we can support each other.
But in doing so, there are times where my services can add value to a new contact. And if that’s the case, we talk about what that looks like.
If I’m able to help them, we schedule a separate call to dive into their business challenges and goals to see if we are a good fit.
Talk to people and make new connections. This will increase your odds of finding the people you can serve.
Be intentional about your outreach. Be genuine and offer high value. Really get to know your new connections.
I challenge you to reach out to 5 new contacts a day on your platform of choice for 30 days and share your results. It’s incredible what happens.
Be sure to schedule this. Track it. And come back here and add a comment around your results.
Tip 4: Podcasts & Speaking
You don’t have to have your own podcast to make this strategy work. You can be a guest on other people’s podcasts.
There are amazing tools out there to find them too. I personally use matchmaker.fm. You can set up your podcast guest profile and find podcast shows. You can search by the category for your business for shows to guest on.
I recommend researching the shows you want to be on. Have a solid pitch ready. Send it to them through matchmaker.fm. If you can find their social media details or email, reach out there as well.
Be excited and be sure to express how you will add value to their audience.
Make sure you have some key stories and key messages you want to share. Have a list ready that you can incorporate into questions you are asked in the interview. Have a free gift ready for the audience.
If you are also a speaker, you can use webinars, live events, stages, keynotes, live summits, etc. as an opportunity to share your message. Be sure to research and find your dream stages.
A dream stage for a business owner is a stage where your ideal clients are listening and attending. Do your research. Find those stages. Build out your speaker kit. And make a pitch.
Start scheduling and landing stages for the upcoming year. Negotiate to offer a free gift. If you can, negotiate being able to sell from stage. The value of a stage goes far beyond getting paid to speak. If you have an opportunity to gain hundreds of clients from a stage, that stage value is really high.
I challenge you to get your message out to as many people as possible. Land your first podcast interview. Put yourself out there for a talk at your local chamber of commerce.
I know it can feel scary. But it’s also so exciting. And think of all the people who need the services you provide. All the people who need to hear what you have to share.
Don’t let them down. You’ve got this!
Go Get Them!
These are only 4 lead generation tips and tools. I have hundreds more. I work with my clients on building and scaling their business. I want them to have a massive impact on their clients and communities.
We all have our own unique abilities. It’s our duty to share them with the world. Instead of being afraid to take action, I challenge you to go after it.
Take the next 30 days and implement these strategies. Then report back here. Add a comment. Share your results.
This is where miracles happen. This is where the rubber meets the road. BUT it only works if you take action.
Need Help?
Are you an action taker? And yet you still find yourself overwhelmed on where to start with this challenge?
I get it. I’ve been there. That’s why I hired my coach and continue working with a coach and a mentor.
Because I need them to help me see my blindspots. And to advise me on where I need to spend my time first.
If you’re an action taker and you’re ready to take your business to the next level, let’s hop on a call today.
